Chaturthi Shraddha 2026 Date

About Chaturthi Shraddha

This day is kept for those who died on a Chaturthi tithi, following the fortnight's general rule. No distinct tradition or special category of ancestor is attached to Chaturthi Shraddha beyond this; the family's duty here is the same tarpan and pind daan observed through Pitru Paksha.

In some years, this day happens to coincide with Bharani Nakshatra, but that alignment shifts with the calendar and is not a fixed feature of Chaturthi Shraddha itself. The rite performed on this day keeps to the standard form: the karta sits facing south, offers water and black sesame as tarpan with a ring of darbha grass on his hand, presents pinda offerings of rice and barley to the departed, and completes the day with food served to invited brahmins. As on other days, the eldest son of the family ordinarily performs the rite.
