Kushmanda Puja
On Chaitra Shukla Chaturthi, Shakti is honoured as Kushmanda — 'the little cosmic egg' (Ku + Ushma + Anda: little + warmth + egg). She is the only Navadurga said to live inside the core of the Sun, and devotees offer her malpua as the day's prasad.

About
The name carries the creation story. Before there were worlds, only darkness existed. Kushmanda smiled — and that smile hatched the Brahmanda, the cosmic egg from which the universe unfolded. She then chose to dwell inside the Sun's core, the one form of Parvati said to bear that heat, and from there she gives Surya his light and direction. That is why she is called the Mother of the Sun. Her eight arms (Ashtabhuja) carry a kamandalu, bow, arrow and lotus on the right; on the left, a pot of amrita, a discus, mace, and a japa mala believed to hold every siddhi she grants. In tantric practice she presides over the Anahata (heart) chakra. A folk reading of her name also links her to the white pumpkin (kushmanda) offered in her bali.

Festival Date, Tithi & Muhurat

Hindu festivals are tied to a specific Tithi, not a fixed date — so the day shifts every year and even varies slightly across cities.

Open the Panchanga for the festival day to see the exact Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana and Shubh Muhurat for pooja in your location.

The Dharmayana app keeps track of all upcoming festivals on the Hindu calendar and reminds you in advance.

Personalised Astrology Around Festivals

Festivals are also a good time to look at your kundali — many families plan sankalp, donations or new beginnings around them.

Inside the app you can:

  • Generate your personal Vedic kundali
  • Talk to a Jyotisha for guidance around career, relationships or health
  • Run kundali matching before fixing a marriage during the festival season

All of this is available inside the Dharmayana app — no fixed schedule, use it whenever you need it.
