Lambodara Sankashti Chaturthi
Of the year's twelve Sankashti Chaturthis, this Magha-month one honours Lambodara — the fifth Ashta Vinayaka form, who in the Mudgala Purana slays Krodhasura, the demon of anger. The fast runs from sunrise until devotees sight the moon, when ghee laddus are offered.
Sakat Chauth
The Magha-month Sankashti Chaturthi, kept mainly in North India by mothers fasting from sunrise to moonrise for their sons' long life. Its signature offering — til (sesame) pounded with jaggery into a mound or laddoo — gives the day its other name, Til-Kuta Chauth.
Sankasta Chaturthi
A monthly fast kept on the fourth day after every full moon, broken only when the worshipper actually sights the rising moon. When this Chaturthi falls on a Tuesday — the day of Mangal (Mars, called Angaraka) — it becomes Angarki Chaturthi, treated as the most powerful of the year, especially in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
