Frequently Asked Questions
When is Hariyali Teej in 2027?
Hariyali Teej 2027 falls on Wednesday, 4 August 2027. Tritiya tithi runs from 08:20 AM, 4 Aug to 05:09 AM, 5 Aug IST, as calculated for Ujjain. Times shift by a few minutes for other cities.
What is Hariyali Teej?
The first and 'small' of three monsoon Teejs, Hariyali Teej falls on Shravana Shukla Tritiya — two days before Nag Panchami — and is marked by green sarees, paired swings hung from trees, and a gift hamper called Sindhara sent from a bride's parents to her in-laws.
Why is Hariyali Teej observed?
The vrat recalls Parvati's penance: by some accounts she fasted for 108 years, by others she took 108 births before Shiva finally accepted her as his wife — so married women fast on her day for the same union she won. The Sindhara hamper gives the festival its other name. Parents send it to a married daughter's in-laws with homemade sweets, henna, bangles, and Ghewar — the disc-shaped, honeycomb-textured sweet made only in Sawan. The paired swing matters too: it is hung in pairs so two women can swing together while singing Teej songs, echoing the divine couple's reunion. Hariyali is the 'Chhoti' or small Teej; Kajari Teej follows fifteen days later, and Hartalika one month on, just before Ganesh Chaturthi.
What are the other names for Hariyali Teej?
Hariyali Teej is also known as Shravana Teej, Choti Teej and Singhara Teej.
Which prarthanas are recited on Hariyali Teej?
Parvati Mantra and Parvati Vallabha Ashtakam are recited on Hariyali Teej. You can listen to them with audio on this page.
