About
Two Virpur legends drive the day's devotion. First, the jholi and danda: a wandering sadhu once asked Jalaram for his wife Virbai as help with alms. She went willingly. The sadhu vanished and left behind only his begging bag and staff — taken as a sign that Rama himself had come to test the couple. Both relics are still kept and worshipped at the Virpur shrine. Second, the self-appearing deities: a sadhu gifted him a Rama murti and foretold Hanuman would follow; a Hanuman image later rose from the earth on its own, joined by Sita and Lakshman. From these stories grew the shrine's most unusual rule — since 2000, Virpur accepts no money, gold or offerings from pilgrims. Only prasad is given, never taken.

The Dharmayana app keeps track of all upcoming festivals on the Hindu calendar and reminds you in advance.
