Papamochani Ekadashi
The last Ekadashi of the lunar year, falling between Holi and Chaitra Navratri. Its name means 'remover of sins' — and the Bhavishya Uttara Purana story behind it concerns a sage who lost 57 years of penance to an apsara's song, and the fast that freed them both.

About
The vrat katha, told by Krishna to Yudhishthira, is set in the Chaitraratha forest. Sage Medhavi, a Shiva devotee deep in tapasya, is targeted by Kamadeva, who sends the apsara Manjughosha to break his vow. She sings to her veena from a distance, and Medhavi is lost. He spends 57 years, 9 months and 3 days with her before waking from the spell — and curses her to become a pishachini (a witch-like spirit). His father, the sage Chyavana, prescribes this very Ekadashi as the cure. Both the sage's broken penance and the apsara's curse are dissolved by the fast — which is why the day is called Papa-mochani, the loosener of sins. The phala-shruti claims it cancels even grave sins like brahma-hatya and theft of gold.

Festival Date, Tithi & Muhurat

Hindu festivals are tied to a specific Tithi, not a fixed date — so the day shifts every year and even varies slightly across cities.

Inside the app you can:

  • Generate your personal Vedic kundali
  • Talk to a Jyotisha for guidance around career, relationships or health
  • Run kundali matching before fixing a marriage during the festival season

All of this is available inside the Dharmayana app — no fixed schedule, use it whenever you need it.

Hindu festivals — like Diwali, Navratri, Mahashivaratri, Holi and Janmashtami — mark sacred moments tied to deities, seasons and lunar/solar cycles. Each festival has its own story, vrat, prarthana and rituals, and is timed using the Panchanga so the date moves slightly every year against the Gregorian calendar.
