Chaturdashi Shraddha
Chaturdashi Shraddha, also known as Ghata Chaturdashi or Ghayala Chaturdashi, is reserved for family members who did not die a natural death — those killed by weapon, accident, poison, fire or violence. It stands apart from the day-of-death rule that governs most of the fortnight, since these deaths are held to unsettle the soul in a particular way.
Trayodashi Shraddha
Also called Teras Shradh, this day is kept for ancestors who died on a Trayodashi tithi, and tradition holds it as the fitting day to perform shraddha for children of the family who died young — a departure from the death-tithi rule followed on most other days.
Masik Shivratri
Each lunar month's Krishna Chaturdashi is Masik Shivaratri — the same tithi that becomes Maha Shivaratri once a year in Magha/Phalguna. The puja window is Nishita Kaal, the two-ghati (about 48 minutes) midnight slot when Shiva is said to have appeared as the Linga. A Tuesday occurrence is held to be especially potent.
