Labh Pancham
Five days after Diwali, Gujarati traders reopen shops with a fresh ledger — writing 'Shubh' on the left page, 'Labh' on the right, and a sathiya (svastika) in the middle. The same Kartika Shukla Panchami is Jnana Panchami for Shvetambara Jains, who bring out and worship their scriptures.

About
The day carries two very different meanings. For Gujarati merchants it is the first working morning of the new Vikram Samvat year. The new account book — called chopda or khata — is consecrated before any business is recorded: 'Shubh' (auspiciousness) on the left, 'Labh' (profit) on the right, and a sathiya drawn at the centre of the first page, with Lakshmi invoked over it. Shvetambara Jains observe the same tithi as Jnana Panchami, literally 'Knowledge Fifth', falling five days after they mark Mahavira's nirvana at Diwali. Manuscripts and Agamas kept in temple bhandars are taken out, dusted, displayed and worshipped — an annual airing of the scriptural collection. Digambara Jains do not use this date; their parallel festival, Shruta Panchami, falls in Jyeshtha (May–June) instead.

Festival Date, Tithi & Muhurat

Hindu festivals are tied to a specific Tithi, not a fixed date — so the day shifts every year and even varies slightly across cities.

Open the Panchanga for the festival day to see the exact Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana and Shubh Muhurat for pooja in your location.

The Dharmayana app keeps track of all upcoming festivals on the Hindu calendar and reminds you in advance.

Personalised Astrology Around Festivals

Festivals are also a good time to look at your kundali — many families plan sankalp, donations or new beginnings around them.

Inside the app you can:

  • Generate your personal Vedic kundali
  • Talk to a Jyotisha for guidance around career, relationships or health
  • Run kundali matching before fixing a marriage during the festival season

All of this is available inside the Dharmayana app — no fixed schedule, use it whenever you need it.
